The Speed of Seeds
“Then he explained to them, you have been permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others have not. To those who are open to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge” (Matthew 13:11 and 12 NLT).
Jesus had just told the story of the farmer scattering seed. Some seed fell on a footpath, and the birds ate them. Other seeds fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The plants sprang up quickly, but they soon welted beneath the hot sun because the roots had no nourishment in the shallow soil. Other seeds fell among thorns that shot up and choked out the tender blades. But some…(and this is us!!) fell on fertile soil and produced a crop that was plentiful and flourished!
Oh! If only there was a way to speed of seeds. The temptation during seed planting is impatience. Jesus never promised instant growth and harvest. I often talk about how we are “changed in one moment in God’s presence”. That’s when a light of revelation is given to us, and we are given the gift of a seed! Then we have to plant that seed in our hearts, and water it by meditating on the truth of that revelation, by choosing to reject the lies that oppose that revelation. Then we have to wait. Oh…the wait. But don’t lose heart my precious friends!
This morning I received a text from a wife who we are helping with their marriage. She is questioning herself and her relationship with her husband because her “romantic feelings” haven’t come back. When will I like him again? When will we start laughing together? When will we feel the spark?
After the questions, she confessed the good part. We are thankful we have peace. We haven’t had peace for a long time. (I thought to myself, “Thank you Jesus!”) I reminded her that peace was the most important right now, because that is the soil in which the seeds of romantic love have been planted.
I encouraged her by remaindering her of the seeds of truth that had been established the last time we had met together:
We are better together than we are apart.
I trust God with my spouse.
God is invited into our marriage.
What about you? What are the seeds of truth that God has been giving to you for your current season? Those revelations? Let those seeds be implanted deep into your heart of peace and love. Your answers are growing as you water them daily. This is not a task for the faint at heart. We are practicing patience as we trust Him! That kind of extreme patience takes perseverance and a personal relationship with your Father in Heaven who loves you deeply.
Today is my day to experience an abundance of knowledge as I understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven. I will rest in knowing that Jesus talked a lot about seeds…and there is nothing you can rush about planting seeds, other than anticipate the promise of a harvest!
Feel the Love my fellow farmers!
